Sample Projects

Negotiations Breakthrough - A client was at a critical stage in labor contract negotiations. One side was threatening to walk away from the discussions with large, negative consequences. By asking the right questions, I brought the parties together to agree on issues. We solved the problem, created a communication plan and debriefed managers, saving the business and its customers from a costly shut down.

Executive Transformation - A new CEO was frustrated that employees perceived her as tentative and weak, whereas she was actually strong and confident. We worked on tactical ways that she could demonstrate traits typical of a strong, confident leader: striking the right balance between asking questions and delivering orders, changing body language and social cues, and taking actions that demonstrate an awareness of political realities.

Vendor Contract - A large company was working to decrease costs and realized it had long neglected one of its important vendor contracts. I analyzed the contract and discovered that fees were being improperly charged. Working closely with the vendor, we renegotiated the contract, and the company happily received a seven-figure reimbursement check.

About

I have focused my career on helping business leaders create the right environment and people-related strategies to establish high-performing organizations. I have decades of experience as a senior human resources professional, and in each assignment, I created human capital strategies, forged cultural transformations, crafted compensation programs, and recruited and engaged top talent. I most recently served as Chief Human Resource Officer at University Hospitals (UH) in Cleveland, Ohio, a $3 billion organization where I led the development and transformation of a top-performance culture known for attracting, engaging, developing and retaining top talent. Under my human resources leadership, UH was recognized in 2013 by Chief Learning Officer Magazine as a national recipient in workforce development and community collaboration. Prior to UH, I held senior leadership roles in human resources, communications and marketing for Montefiore Medical Center, Zurich Scudder Investments, Baystate Health System and Yale-New Haven Hospital.

I am a Certified Executive Coach through the Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead Executive Education Program. I also am certified by The Hay Group to administer and interpret the Emotional and Social Competency Inventory (ESCI), as well as Linkage Inc’s Leadership Assessment Inventory. I have spoken to many audiences around the globe on human resources strategies, published numerous articles on human capital strategies and served on many corporate and non-profit boards of directors, taking leadership roles on the boards’ compensation- and human resources-related committees.

I hold a BS in journalism and a Master of Public Administration from West Virginia University.
